About Toimisetti Corporation
From Partnership to Power Solutions
Toimisetti Technology Trade started in 1995 as an informal partnership between two close friends, Carlos Ubaldo, a Filipino mechanical engineer, and Jorma Satola, an experienced paper production engineer from Finland.
Toimisetti is a combination of two Finnish words: “Toimi” (work) and “setti” (set), which together can mean “work-set” or “set-of-works.” The plan was to bring into the country paper-making experts from Finland and import used paper-making equipment from various parts of Europe.
However, the gradual collapse of the paper industry in the country, due to stiff competition from Indonesian and Chinese paper products, caused Jorma to leave the Philippines in 1997 for Indonesia, where he later established a paper mill machinery trading company catering to the Indonesian paper industry.
Carlos, on the other hand, saw an opportunity in providing an alternative source of electricity for paper mills, which needed clean, reliable, and cheaper power than what was being provided by public utilities. In 1997, he introduced Daihatsu Diesel Co. Ltd. to the Philippine market, at the time dominated by Niigata, MAN-B&W, Sulzer, and Wärtsilä.
From 1997 to 2016, Toimisetti completed several projects using diesel-engine generator equipment from Daihatsu, many of which were installed in local paper mills and electronics factories located in various industrial parks. These two decades provided Toimisetti with valuable experience in marketing and servicing diesel engines and associated auxiliary equipment used for power generation.
As the demand for marine diesel engines running on heavy fuel oil (HFO) for industrial facilities began to wane by 2012, a new business opportunity emerged: electricity production in small islands not connected to the public grid.
To meet this demand, Toimisetti began working with Mitsubishi (for high-speed diesel engines) and Anglo Belgian Corporation (ABC) (for medium-speed diesel engines) in 2016, following Daihatsu Diesel’s decision to limit its Asia-Pacific distribution channel to Daikai Engineering in Singapore.
Toimisetti Corporation was formally incorporated in May 2003 at its first office in Burgundy Corporate Tower, Makati City, Philippines.
